I have a new lab puppy 10 weeks old black and he continues to bite everyone! Any training tips?
My puppy is 10 weeks and a black lab. Continues to bite all really hard. Not like a normal puppy biting, real, aggressive bite. I understand that he is a puppy, and wanted to know if anyone have any suggestions for training. Thanks!
At 10 weeks of age would be very unusual for a puppy to behave aggressively. It seems as if he had just indulging in the habit very common puppy to bite and to put in your mouth! Although this is normal Puppy Behavior, it is amazingly annoying and painful, and something is definitely need to stop. If you are consistent in your corrections will reduce the nipping, and eventually grow out of it, but for now you need to let them know it is not acceptable. It is not aggressive, but it can sometimes be considered a game for the domain, and is designed to get your attention. Thus, the first thing to do is withdraw your attention from him as soon as they bite. Say "Oh, NO!" strong and steadfast. Then cross your arms, avoid contact with eyes, turn his back on him if you can, and ignore it for a while. If it keeps nipping at you, cross your arms (so that the arms hanging and hands groped him!) and walk away. Repeat this process every time he starts to bite. Puppies learn through association, and once that starts to bite associated with losing your attention, will stop it in time. If, after a week or so, this does not work, or your puppy starts to slip back into his old habits, try to spray hands, arms, wrists, pants, shoelaces and so on with Bitter Apple. Most puppies like the taste and stop mouthing. For the remaining stubborn persistent biters not 'give up', you can use a spray bottle with water or a breath-freshening spray to stop him in his tracks.
