HELP,I need training help for my new Shih Tzu/poodle mix!!!

I just bought a puupy last nite. He is a Shih Tzu/poodle mix. The dog is VERY affectionate & loves attention,rubbing,etc..but I am VERY new at the training thing and hopefully the Yahoo! family can help this newbie:

1. When I take him outside he just ploops down and wont move…without a general very gentle tug…and sometimes I have to pull harder. I was told to ” show the dog who is boss” but I don’t want to seem overbearing.

2.I AM VERY OPEN TO ANY SUGGESTIONS ON HOW TO GET HIM TO STAY,SIT,..ETC

3. One good thing about ” samson” he responds very well to firm ” NO ” he looks up and changes direction immediatly

4. Should I use the kennel that I bought for him to potty train him or use the laundry room with training pads and a toy. My wife and I are working professionals and we may be away for 8 or more hours a day…which training method is the best?

Thanks for any help or suggestions that you have to offer me for my little man..

PLEASE I hope he wasnt from a pet store..

anyhow read both links…

for further training you NEED to go to proper Obedience Classes as these will also teach SOCIALIZATION something many small dog ownes miss.. and will help you do things right – because clearly you are lost and will confuse the dog
