When Pomeranian Dogs are protected in the understanding that they fit in to the family, they are more likely to react better to their owners’ training commands. Just like with any relationship, there must be good trust and respect between you and your Pomeranian Dog.
Trust takes time to acquire and respect comes from determining boundaries and treating any breach of those boundaries with firmness and fairness.
Without enforceable restrictions, respect can’t be acquired. And when there is no respect, developing a rapport with your Pomeranian Dog is nearly unattainable.

How Your Pomeranian Learns…
Your Pomeranian Dog’s learning period can be broken down into five phases:
The Teaching Phase – This is the phase where you must physically show to your Pomeranian precisely what you want him to do.
The Practicing Phase – Practice makes Perfect. Once a lesson is learned, practice with your Pomeranian what you have just tutored him.
The Generalizing Phase – Here you must continue practicing with your Dog in different locations and in an environment with a few disruptions. You can take your Pomeranian out for a walk, or to a nearby park and order him to practice whatever you’ve trained him.
Practicing the learned lessons in many locations and in the presence of small interruptions will help him learn and hold on to lessons better .
The Testing Phase – Once you’re sure that your Pomeranian Dog has accomplished almost 90% success….he behaves properly almost every time you give a command, you must start testing his correctness in newer places with a lot of disturbances.
Example: Take him to the local shopping mall and ask him to follow your command. He may not come up with the accurate response the very first time you do this, but you must not lose hope.
The idea is to test your Pomeranian Dog to see how he reacts in a situation which is new to him. Set-up an environment where you are in control of the atmosphere and your Pomeranian Dog.
There are only 2 alternatives:
• Your Pomeranian Dog succeeds!!! (Trumpets please!)
• In case your Pomeranian Dog fails, re-examine the environment. Review and/or change your coaching. Then try testing again.
Keep on testing until he succeeds. Follow the rule of the 3 Ps – patience, persistence, praise.
Internalizing Phase – Finally, comes the highly rewarding phase where your Pomeranian Dog does everything he is coached to do even without your commands.
Remember:
• Never scold your Pomeranian Dog if he fails. It’s not his problem. You have failed as a trainer!
• You must be patient and persistent for your efforts to display achievements.
• Appreciate and love your Pomeranian Dog when he does it correct! A little reassurance will work miracles for your Pomeranian Dog.
